Alan B. Pierce
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1943. He moved with his family in 1948 to Switzerland where his father worked for the International Refugee Organisation. His family came to Australia as migrants in 1950.
He spent an idyllic childhood in Ocean Grove, a Victorian coastal town, and attended Geelong Grammar School. he was in the same class as Peter Carey!
Alan has LLB/BA degrees from Melbourne University (1966) and an LLM from the University of London (1974).
He began work as an articled clerk with a firm of solicitors in Melbourne, but hankered after a life in more exotic places. There followed a 40+ year career as a senior lawyer with the governments of Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong and (less exciting but equally rewarding) the Attorney General’s Department in Canberra. He received a Commonwealth award for his work with the Attorney General’s Department. Alan retired in 2010.
He married Robyn in New Guinea in 1970. They have two adult sons and four grandsons and now live in Sydney.
