Terence Campbell

The author was born in Ireland in early 1929, moved to England with his family in 1937 and received a Grammar School education at Milland House in W.Sussex. Matriculating in 1946, he entered the Royal Air Force and served for 2 ½ years. Dismissing both a History scholarship at Durham University and being articled at his grandfathers legal chambers in London he ventured into the unknown, accepting a four year contract with the Anglo-Sumatran Rubber Co., as a Junior Assistant Manager on a rubber estate. Following the nationalisation of foreign assets in Indonesia he transferred to Dunlop Estates in Malaysia and enjoyed a further thirty years in the plantation industry. During this period he was seconded to the London office for a short period and undertook a number of consultancy projects in Liberia and Hainan Island in China. Retiring to Australia in 1982, he registered with several consultancy firms and undertook projects in Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.
To commemorate 50 years of Independence he was, with other planters who had served as Hon. Inspectors in the Auxiliary Police Force during the Malayan Emergency, awarded the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) by the Malaysian Government.
