Michael Batchelor is a twenty-three years old graduate with a Bachelor of Communication from Griffith University on the Gold Coast. His majors were Writing and Journalism. He did an internship for a website called ‘Our World Today’, writing film reviews for the last six months of his University degree. Since his graduation in 2011, he has been writing novels and trying to break into the publishing market.
Michael’s ambition and passion has always been writing. He has been writing creatively since he was nine-years-old with mostly short stories. But since he was a teenager he has been focussing more on novels and novellas, with a particular interest in fiction and satire. I’m an avid reader, who mostly enjoys the classics, such as George Orwell, Mark Twain, Hunter S. Thompson, etc.
“The Red Chilli” is his third complete novel, and the first to be published. He wrote this book with inspiration to people he went to school with. The culture, language and attitude of his peers in his adolescent years are the inspiration and motive behind The Red Chilli. Queensland has a very unique culture that’s a relevant backbone of Australiana and as Michael says: “I’d like to believe I’ve shed some light into a satirical version of it.”
