Rules and conditions of entry

 

The conditions and eligibility criteria governing the Awards may change without notice. These conditions of entry apply to all entries in all categories.

 

 

A. Entry Requirements:

  1. Fee: The entry fee attracts the full GST. Entrants are requested to submit entry form, the author’s consent if entry is submitted on behalf of an author and entry fee of AU$99.00.

  2. Payment of the entry fee must be made at the time of application by direct deposit in the name of Horizon Publishing Group: Bank: Commonwealth Bank - BSB: 062-401 - Account: 10140779.

  3. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form.

  4. A separate entry form must be completed for each entry.

  5. An entry can be made for one category only except for non-fiction and Australian history categories where an entry can be made in both categories. However, A separate entry form must be completed for each entry.

  6. The work MUST be excellently edited (but not an editing work written by someone else), proofread, well presented and ready for publication.

  7. Entries can be in word format or InDesign format. However, HPG prefers the work to be in InDesign format but it is not an obligation to win an award.

  8. All manuscripts must be submitted on-line by the due date and time to hpgolas@horizonpg.net

  9. While all reasonable care will be taken, no responsibility is accepted for loss or damage to submitted copies or for entries that are not received by the due time and date.

  10. Horizon Publishing Group may request at any time supporting documentation in relation to any or all of the above eligibility criteria.

  11. Breach of these guidelines may render an entry invalid whether prospectively or retrospectively.

  12. If an entry is deemed ineligible, under these eligibility and entry rules, the entrant will be notified and the entry fee will not be refunded.

  13. Entrant(s) MUST sign and agree to publish their work in case of wining an award. The agreement must be attached to the entry form.

  14. Upon receipt of the manuscript, entry form, consent (if required), a brief summary of the relevant work, the author’s biography and entry fee, Horizon Publishing Group will issue and forward by email a tax invoice within 28 days.

  15. Authors must consent to participate in HPG promotional activities.

 

B. CLOSING DATE

  1. The completed entry form, an author’s consent (if relevant), a brief summary of the relevant work, a short updated biography, and the entry fee should all be submitted together and not later than the close of business (5:00 pm) of Thursday 31st December 2015.

  2. Horizon Publishing Group reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, not to accept incomplete or late entries.

  3. Horizon Publishing Group reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to request any further information in relation to any entry.

 

C. Judging and SELECTION OF WINERS

  1. Horizon Publishing Group Outstanding Literary Awards (HPGOLAS) will be allocated to entries of excellence possessing the highest standard of literary merit.

  2. Judges are chosen from outside Horizon Publishing Group’s staff.

  3. On recommendation of the judges, Horizon Publishing Group reserves the right not to award prizes in a particular year if the works entered are deemed not of high standard or of sufficient merit.

  4. The judging process MUST be free from any interference. In order to ensure a transparent process, any author, literary agents, producers or broadcasters who attempts to lobby, undertakes discussions or corresponds with Horizon Publishing Group in relation to an entry or entries may be permanently disqualified from these Awards.

  5. If an entry is deemed ineligible, under these eligibility and entry rules, the entrant will be notified and the entry fee will not be refunded.

 

D. WINING ENTRIES

  1. Horizon Publishing Group will make the final decision on the awarding of the Awards, taking into account the recommendations of the judges and the merit of the entries.

  2. Horizon Publishing Group and the judges’ decisions are final and not open to discussion by any communication mean.

  3. Following the judges’ decision, they will inform Horizon Publishing Group.

  4. Horizon Publishing Group informs will then the winners.

  5. Confidentiality of Award Winners will be maintained until the official presentations are made by Horizon Publishing Group.

  6. The details of Award Winners will be posted on HPG Website on the day of the announcement.

  7. The winners of the four HPGOLAS will be announced at an official public presentation at an appropriate time and venue to be determined by Horizon Publishing Group.
