Submission Guidelines

The process of publishing a book can be very long and exhausting. However, we, at Horizon Publishing Group, are providing you in the following step-by-step detailed information on how to make sure your submission adheres to our guidelines in order to see your work published in a short time.

The first step in publishing your book with Horizon Publishing Group is reading and understanding the following section "A", then, if you decided to submit your work to us, read the following section "B" on "How to prepare your submission".

A - Submitting Your Proposal

1) A covering letter that addresses the following:

  • 1) How you came to write the book.
  • 2) A note on your view of the potential market/readership of the book.
  • 3) List similar books that have been printed or are in print and explain how your proposal differs from existing books in the market.
  • 4) How comparable books have sold in bookshops.
  • 5) List any additional markets that your proposed book could sell in, besides bookstores.
  • 6) How you would promote your book, including any of your relevant media or corporate contacts or other contacts that would help us in marketing your book.
  • 7) What your intended audience is. What sections of society would be interested in what you have written?

*If you are unable to provide us with the information marked with '*' you can disregard it. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend you provide the information required as this will help us to market your finished book.

2) A synopsis of the entire book (Not more than three pages long).

3) Submit only the first three chapters of your book, and a synopsis of the entire book (As stated under guideline 2 above). Do not send query letters as we practically cannot assess your work without a portion of the manuscript. (However your synopsis is good, it is impossible for us to assess the quality of your work for example from chapters 1, 25, and 37).

4) A current Resume including education, profession, work history, membership and affiliations, and previous publications, if any.

Although all possible care will be taken with all submissions, however, Horizon Publishing Group bears no responsibility for the loss or damage of material received. Please ensure that you send copies only of your submitted material. Do not send original illustrations or photographs.

Our response time:

Our current response time, compared to other publishing houses of twelve months, is in fact very short. It is currently estimated at twelve (12) weeks from the date of receipt by Horizon Publishing Group of a submission from an Author. Due to the volume of submissions, it may be longer at certain times of the year. No acknowledgement of receipt will be sent. You will be advised in writing by the end of the fourth week of receipt of your submission. Assessment is made in order of receipt.

Please read carefully ALL of the following before submitting your proposal to Horizon Publishing Group. The success of your work and finished book depend solely upon you scrupulously following them.

B - How to prepare your submission:

If after reviewing the information above you decided to submit your proposal to Horizon Publishing Group, please adher to the following in preparing your submission to us.

Read carefully the following instructions as this will prevent any waste of yours and our time:

  • 1) Please do not submit your work on disk, tape, or other electronic media.
  • 2) Currently, you are now able to submit your work by email. Email submissions should be sent to the Submission Team at: submissions@horizonpg.net
  • 3) Your cover letter should state the genre of the submission, and previous sales or publications, if relevant.
  • 4) Never send us the only copy of your book. Australia Post is no more perfect than all of us, and things do get lost in the mail.
  • 5) Always put your name and address on each page of your manuscript.
  • 6) In addition to your name and address, the manuscript title, and the page number should appear on the top of every page of your manuscript (as a header).
  • 7) If you do not wish your manuscript to be returned, please tell us on your covering letter. If you enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard, we will return it to you to ensure we received your manuscript.
  • 8) Type your manuscript on good plain WHITE paper (80gsm. minimum, not erasable).
  • 9) Your text should be double-spaced.
  • 10) Leave 5 cm margins all around (at least).
  • 11) Paragraphs indicated by indents (tabs), not by an extra line space.
  • 12) Use only one side of the page.
  • 13) Do not staple or otherwise bind your manuscript; use only a paper clip.
  • 14) Do not submit low-resolution dot matrix print-outs; they will be disregarded.
  • 15) Please do not use a fancy font (this is almost as difficult to read as the palest dot-matrix), and please make sure you use a font large of at least 11 points with a maximum of 12 points.
  • 16) Please turn off margin justification and proportional spacing; pages with ragged right margins are easier for us to read, and easier for our production department to set.
  • 17) Please indicate italics by underlining and indicate boldface by drawing a wavy line beneath the affected characters. Copy to be typeset needs to be marked in very specific ways, and if you use italics or boldface in the manuscript, they will still need to be marked up by the production.
  • 18) Please put a covering page for Novels and Non-fiction Books.
  • 19) For Novels and Non-fiction Books, you can prepare the covering page in different ways and formats. However, the easiest way is to centre the title of your book in the middle of the page. Leave three lines and centre your name. Again, leave a further three lines and enter your contact information centred (real name, if different from your "pen name", address, phone, fax, etc.) Skip another three lines and include the total word-count of your manuscript.
  • 20) Begin each chapter of your book on its own page separated from the previous one, beginning halfway down the page with the title of the chapter (or number, if you do not use titles).
  • 21) Do not include your by line on each chapter, or any contact information.
  • 22) Email your submission to:
