Rafael Sabatini
"He was born with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad."
Rafael Sabatini, 1921
Born in Jesi, Italy, on 29th April 1875 from a British mother and Italian father, Rafael Sabatini was an Italian/British author of the greatest adventure, sword-fighting and chivalry novels of all times. His both parents were opera singers who later became teachers. Due to his parent's linguistic combination and to the fact he lived in Switzerland, he mastered six languages. Nevertheless, he wrote mostly in English as he said "all the best stories are written in English".

Following a quarter of a century of hard writing, his first great success, Scaramouche, set during the French Revolution, was published in 1921 and became instantly an international best seller. His second unparalleled success was Captain blood (1922). Following the success of Scaramouch; the Sea Hawk (1915), Scaramouches, Captain Blood, have been converted to Hollywood successful movies.

Rafael Sabatini published 31 novels, 8 short stories, 6 non-fictions, and a number of other short novels and one play.
He died in 1950.
